🔥 Agnihotra, is a powerful, sacred fire meditation techniques used in India and across the worl.

There are many secrets in our ancient traditions, which are alive even today. Agnihotra is one of them. Literally, it is translated as healing fire (agni is fire, hotra means healing). Having its roots mainly in Ayurveda, Agnihotra traces its origin to the Vedic sciences of medicine, agriculture and climate engineering.

Agnihotra refers to a little procedure  involving mantras, and a simple fire. Easy to perform, Agnihotra is known to have many benefits. Such is the value, that this ‘homa therapy’ is performed across the world.  It is known to purify the atmosphere and heal the body of diseases.

👉🏽 It is a healing fire ceremony performed at the moment of sunrise and sunset. The exact timing depends on the local sunrise/sunset. Agnihotra originates from ancient Indian culture. It’s mentioned in the Vedas, a set of early spiritual (non-religious) texts which were originally passed on in verbal form and later written down in Sanskrit, dating as far back as 1500 BCE (For more info: https://www.ancient.eu/The_Vedas/).

Veda means “knowledge” in Sanskrit. In essence, the Vedic texts provided guidance and understanding on ways to live a healthy and spiritual life, and later helped to inform Hinduism as well as other religions. We often seem to fear the idea of fire in modern day culture, unless it’s snuggling up to a woodburner on a chilly night! But early cultures and civilisations around the world recognised fire as one of the key elements of life, along with water, air, earth and ether.

These are the components of all life. The Sun is the fire source of our beautiful planet and, in performing this ceremony at the times of sunrise and sunset, we’re really honouring that. The practice was lost for many generations but has recently seen a revival in India. It’s now being practiced by individuals and groups around the world

The ancient Indian fire ritual for purification and improving health and happiness.

It is a Vedic ritual or sacrifice mentioned in the ancient scriptures Atharvaveda and described in detail in the Yajurveda Samhita and the Shatapatha Brahmana.  It is a process of purification of the atmosphere as a cumulative effect of various scientific principles harnessed to give rise to an unparallel purifying and healing phenomenon.

The positive effects of Agnihotra are an outcome of simultaneous functioning of many subtle scientific principles, such as, effect of chanting of specific sounds on the atmosphere and mind, energies emanating from the pyramid- shape, nutritional effects of burning the medicinal ingredients, effects of the bio-rhythms etc. It balances the cycle of nature and nourishes the human life. It creates pure, clean and medicinal atmosphere. It cleanses the negative effects of pollution.

Benefits of Agnihotra are:

Agnihotra has various benefits, both practical and healing.

On a physical, environmental level, Agnihotra smoke cleanses the air of pollutants, negative vibrations and radiation. You might not think you’re exposed to radiation, but many of your home devices are putting out radiation and creating an electro-magnetic field as well as naturally occurring radiation in our environment.

Agnihotra helps to reduce stress, enhance a sense of calm and deepen meditation practice. This comes not only from the cleansed surroundings, but the smoke and fire also work at the level of the subtle body. They help to cleanse our aura and vibrational field, creating a clearer auric field and promoting healing by helping us to work on releasing negative energies. Attending or performing Agnihotra helps to gradually raise our vibrational level, and can be a really helpful tool on the spiritual journey.

The ash from the Agnihotra can be used as a natural remedy for various ailments. A spoon of the ash can be added to drinking water (it’s fine to ingest), or mixed with ghee and other healing oils to make ointments. It can also be scattered around plants to promote healthy growth and ward of pests.

Scientific benefits of agnihotra are:

  • Agnihotra has the ability to neutralize pathogenic bacteria.

  • Agnihotra has an excellent effect on the circulatory system.

  • Agnihotra renews brain cells.

  • Agnihotra revitalizes the skin.

  • Agnihotra purifies the blood.

  • Agnihotra relieves tension on the mind.

  • When Agnihotra is performed, the Agnihotra smoke gathers particles of harmful radiation in the atmosphere and on a very subtle level, neutralizes their radioactive effect. Nothing is destroyed, merely changed. Agnihotra ash totally solves the radiation problem. Even more so Agnihotra negates its effect. Agnihotra neutralizes harmful radiation and cleanses the planet. Agnihotra has the capacity to protect from thermal radiation and radioactive fallout.

How is the agnihotra performed?

Timing, they say, is everything. So it is for the agnihotra ritual. Agnihotra is performed at the precise time of sunrise and sunset - possibly a natural sync with the human biorhythm at those times. Two pinch full of uncooked rice (with a little ghee) is offered to a fire, made with dried cow dung cakes. The fire is made in a little copper pot.

Two short Sanskrit mantras are chanted during the offering. Sometimes, people also include other chants such as the Mahamritunjaya mantra.

Namaste 🙏🏽
